Special: alleen vrouwenstemmen in de top 3 - hoe bijzonder is dat?

In de FZ Top 40 van deze week bestaat de top-3 uit Cyclone van Future Palace, End of You van Poppy, Amy Lee & Courtney LaPlante en Kan Je Me Zien van Bente. Wat deze drie nummers gemeen hebben, is dat er alleen vrouwenstemmen op te horen zijn.

Ruim zes jaar geleden

In de jaren '20 is het niet eerder gebeurd dat alle vocalisten in de top-3 vrouw waren. De laatste keer was namelijk in de chart van week 7-2019. Toen bestond de top-3 uit Avril Lavignes Tell Me It's Over, Crashing Atlas' Monster en Don't Feel like Crying van Sigrid.

Waarom het meer dan 6,5 jaar niet is voorgekomen is eenvoudig te verklaren vanuit het feit dat er de laatste jaren veel meer rockmuziek in mijn chart is komen te staan. Dat zijn voor het overgrote deel bands en die bands hebben bijna altijd een mannelijke zanger. Logischerwijs neemt de kans dat er alleen maar vrouwen in de top-3 staan dan af. Hetzelfde geldt voor vrouwen in de top-40. Op dit moment is op maar 11 van de 40 nummers een vrouw te horen en dat is eerder minder geweest.

In de jaren '10 kwam het heel veel vaker voor

Met deze week erbij opgeteld is het 28 keer voorgekomen dat er alleen maar vrouwen te horen waren in de top-3. Van de 718 FZ Top 40's, dus dan hebben we het over een krappe 4% van de lijsten.

In 2014 het vaakst alleen maar vrouwenstemmen in de top-3

Opmerkelijk genoeg is het in 2012 en 2013 niet voorgekomen. In 2014 juist vaker dan ooit: in 10 charts. Dit dankzij de successen van onder andere Jess Glynne, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande en Taylor Swift dat jaar. De eerste vrouwelijke top-3 van dat jaar bestond uit Shakira's Can't Remember to Forget You, Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynnes Rather Be en Little Nikki's YoYo.

Meeste weken op rij

Het recordaantal weken dat er alleen vrouwen te horen waren in de top-3 is vijf: van week 20 t/m 24-2018. Jess Glynne, CHVRCHES, Eleni Foureira en Demi Lovato (die laatste samen met Clean Bandit) stonden in die weken op het erepodium van de FZ Top 40.

Deze week werd Sapphire Ed Sheerans veertigste FZ Top 40-hit. Hij is de eerste artiest in de 13-jarige geschiedenis van de chart die deze mijlpaal bereikt.

Bij lange na niet de succesvolste

Hoewel Ed al veertig hits op zijn naam heeft mogen schrijven, is hij als je naar het totaal aantal punten kijkt bij lange na niet de grootste artiest. Oorzaak: van de 40 kwamen er 13 niet hoger dan #30 en 14 stonden slechts 2 of 3 weken genoteerd. Desondanks een prestatie om als eerste artiest de 40 vol te maken, en het hadden er ook 51 kunnen zijn: elf van zijn nummers strandden in de Tiplijst.

Ook grote hits

Natuurlijk heeft hij ook grotere hits gescoord, hoewel er geen meer dan 500 punten haalde: met Castle on the Hill en River stond Ed Sheeran op nummer 1 en Thinking Out Loud op #2. Daarnaast schopten ook Shape of You, Boa Me, Shivers, Celestial en Azizam het tot in de top 5.

Ed Sheeran Top 40

Hierbij de Ed Sheeran Top 40. Deze hits waren tot nu toe goed voor 5268 punten (Azizam en Sapphire staan op dit moment nog in de lijst). Om de succesvolste artiest allertijden te worden moet Ed nog wel heel erg flink aan de bak... de teller van topscorer YUNGBLUD staat op dit moment op 9352, al heeft die dan weer nog lang geen eigen Top 40.

Special: 700x FZ Top 40 - over de beweeglijkheid van de lijst

Op 5 juni verscheen de 700ste FZ Top 40! Ter gelegenheid daarvan kijk ik in deze blogpost eens niet naar de nummers die in mijn chart hebben gestaan en records die daarmee te maken hebben, maar naar de lijsten zelf.

Want ook over de lijsten zelf valt veel te zeggen. De FZ Top 40 bestaat nu ruim 13 jaar, en in al die jaren was de lijst niet altijd even 'snel': sommige lijsten kennen veel verschuivingen, andere minder. Soms zijn er veel binnenkomers, soms weinig.

Jongste en oudste lijst

Als we kijken naar jaren waarin het gemiddelde aantal weken dat nummers in de FZ Top 40 genoteerd stonden laag was, dan springen 2014 en 2015 ertussenuit. Dat is al te zien aan het gemiddelde aantal binnenkomers per week - een ruime 5,3 - en is dus ook af te zien aan de 'leeftijd' van de hits in de lijst. De chart van week 11-2014 was het jongst. Op dat moment stonden hits gemiddeld slechts 4,2 weken genoteerd. Er stond toen zelfs maar één nummer langer dan 10 weken in: Addicted to You van Avicii, dat die week overigens wel een flinke klap kreeg. Ter vergelijking: op dit moment staan er 9 nummers meer dan 10 weken genoteerd. Ook andere weken in 2014 en 2015 waren erg 'snel'.

In twee andere jaren, namelijk 2012 en 2019, stonden dan weer relatief veel oude hits. In week 2 van laatstgenoemde jaar stond een liedje gemiddeld 8,2 weken genoteerd. Bijna twee keer zo lang als de eerder genoemde chart uit 2014, dus. Maar liefst 13 hits stonden toen tegelijkertijd meer dan 10 weken genoteerd, met Panic! at the Disco's High Hopes (28 weken) voorop.

Beweeglijkheid van de lijst

Ik heb ook gekeken naar de 'beweeglijkheid' van de FZ Top 40, waarmee ik bedoel: hoeveel plekken stijgen of zakken alle nummers in de lijst gemiddeld? Daarvoor neem ik de afstand tussen de positie vorige week en positie van de huidige week en tel ik die sommen bij elkaar op. Goed om te weten is dat lijstverlaters niet zijn meegenomen bij een van de berekeningen hieronder.

Exclusief binnenkomers

Wanneer binnenkomers buiten beschouwing worden gelaten (want met binnenkomers heb je immers al snel veel beweging, bijv.: een binnenkomer op #25 betekent 41-25 = 16 plaatsen beweging), dan waren vooral de beginjaren van de lijst (2012-2014) erg beweeglijk. Week 18-2013 spant de kroon: die lijst was een grote chaos (gemiddeld 8,4 plaatsen verschuiving per nummer), met aardig wat nummers die minstens 10 plekken stijgen of zakken. Buiten die eerste drie jaren zijn er in de FZ Top 40 nog maar zelden zulke héél beweeglijke lijsten te zien. Wel in week 32-2018: 6,6 plaatsen verschuiving.

Dan het omgekeerde: de traagste chart met de kleinste gemiddelde verschuiving. In de lijst van deze week gebeurt niet bijzonder veel met een gemiddelde verschuiving van 2,5 plaats. Daarmee komt week 23 van 2025 echter niet in de top-10 terecht. De chart waarin het minste gebeurde was week 50-2019. Het spannendste wat er toen gebeurde was een zakker van 8 posities, maar verder... niet zoveel. Gebeurt dat heel vaak rond Kerst, zo'n saaie lijst? Dat valt op zich nog wel mee: in de top-10 van 'saaiste' charts staan er drie uit een decembermaand en één uit januari.

Inclusief binnenkomers

Tellen we binnenkomers mee, dan is week 18 van 2013 nog steeds de beweeglijkste lijst. Niet heel vreemd, omdat er die week drie nummers in de top 20 binnenkwamen. De minst beweeglijke lijst is echter de recentste FZ Top 40 geworden, die van week 23-2025. De lijst van afgelopen week kende dan ook de laagste hoogste binnenkomer ooit: Crimes of Passion van St. Lucia moest maar liefst 32 andere hits voor zich laten.

Zittenblijvers

In aanvulling op bovenstaande deel: zittenblijvers. Er zijn heel wat charts geweest waarin geen enkel nummer bleef staan, dus dat is niet zo interessant. Wel interessant: het grootste aantal zittenblijvers ooit is 12. In week 42-2012 en week 14-2023 bleven veel hits lekker staan waar ze stonden.

Aantal binnenkomers

Het hoogste aantal binnenkomers ooit is 9. Dat gebeurde eerst in week 2-2013 en vier jaar later nog eens, in week 17-2017. In beide gevallen zat er een re-entry bij, dus het gaat om 8 nieuwkomers. Het aantal charts met 6 nieuwkomers of meer is in 2019 plotseling fors afgenomen. Waar dit aantal in de drie jaren ervoor nog rond de 20 was, is het sinds 2019 nooit meer boven de 10 gekomen. In 2025 is het tot nu toe zelfs maar één keer voorgekomen, in week 7. Opmerkelijk genoeg waren er die week zelfs 8 binnenkomers - voor het eerst sinds 2017. Tegenwoordig is het aantal binnenkomers nagenoeg altijd 4 of 5.

Het kleinste aantal binnenkomers ooit is 3. Dat is een aantal keer voorgekomen, maar het is slechts één keer gebeurd dat er daarvan maar 2 nieuw waren (en de andere dus een re-entry): in week 16-2012. Alleen Cascada en Hot Chelle Rae (wat een tijd!) wisten toen voor het eerst de FZ Top 40 te bereiken.

Maar I Follow Rivers van Lykke Li ineens van #5 naar #40 laten zakken, dat is toch best leuk? Een beetje sensatie!

Ja, dat is één van de voorbeelden en veroorzakers van de enorme beweeglijkheid van de lijst in de beginjaren. Dat kan niet echt de bedoeling zijn geweest. Of wel? Ik weet het niet meer. Of de keer dat het kerstnummer van Radio 538, Zonder Jou Geen 538, van #11 naar #39 crashte... oké, misschien was dat dan weer wél terecht.
