Jaarlijst 2025

2025 was het jaar van de 700ste FZ Top 40 en de 250ste nummer 1-hit en ook het jaar van Silverstein (6 noteringen), We Came as Romans (succesvolste debutant) en Architects (twee grote nummer 1-hits). Dit jaar stonden 285 hits genoteerd in de FZ Top 40. Dat zijn er acht minder dan vorig jaar.

De veertiende jaargang van de FZ Top 40 zit erop en ik sluit het jaar zoals altijd af met de jaarlijst. De totstandkoming van de jaarlijst gaat zoals altijd volgens het 40-39-38-...-3-2-1-puntensysteem. Het werkt als volgt: iedere week krijgt de nummer 1 van de FZ Top 40 veertig punten. Elke positie daarna krijgt één punt minder dan positie daarvoor. Dat gaat dus door tot de nummer 38 die 3 punten krijgt, #39 die er 2 krijgt en de #40 die slechts één punt krijgt toegekend. Tel al die punten bij elkaar op en je krijgt de jaarlijst.

Artiesten

Dit jaar stonden er 231 verschillende artiesten in de FZ Top 40. Dat zijn er 34 minder dan vorig jaar. De succesvolste act was de Canadese band Silverstein. Zij scoorden zes hits, die bij elkaar goed waren voor maar liefst 2094 punten. Het kwam maar drie keer voor dat een artiest nóg meer punten scoorde binnen een kalenderjaar: Flo Rida in 2012 en YUNGBLUD in zowel 2019 als 2020.

Nummers

De Hit van het Jaar van 2025 is Blackhole van de Engelse metalcoreband Architects. Het nummer stond bijna een half jaar (25 weken) in de FZ Top 40, waarvan vier weken op nummer 1 en scoorde 705 punten. Dat is relatief weinig voor een jaarnummer-1. In drie gevallen had de nummer 1 nog minder punten.

De dit jaar debuterende band We Came as Romans staat met Bad Luck op #2. Linkin Park vervolledigt de top-3 met Up from the Bottom. Toevallig stond Linkin Park in 2024 ook op #3 in de Jaarlijst. Toen met The Emptiness Machine (die staat er dit jaar ook in: op #93).

Het jaar sluit ik woensdag af met de Jaarlijst, maar voor het zover is zoals altijd eerst een update van de top 25 artiesten (allertijden). Klik hier om de lijst van vorig jaar te zien.

Voor alweer het vierde jaar op rij voert YUNGBLUD de top 25 artiesten aan. Dankzij zijn vier hits van dit jaar, waarvan één nummer 1-hit (Hello Heaven, Hello) is hij de eerste artiest die de grens van 9000 punten passeert - en voor de 10.000 heeft hij niet heel veel meer nodig.

Special: Top 250 nummer 1-hits

Deze week werd Deep Blue van Future Palace de 250ste nummer 1-hit van de FZ Top 40. In deze blogpost enkele wetenswaardigheden en de top 250 nummer 1-hits op basis van aantal punten.

Minste en meeste weken op #1
Death by a Thousand Cuts van de Zweedse metalcoreband Imminence stond in de winter van 2023-24 maar liefst 12 weken bovenaan de lijst. Drie hits stonden 10 weken op #1: Wake Me Up van Avicii (2013), Popular Monster van Falling in Reverse (2019-20) en Bad Omens' Just Pretend (2023).

Het komt behoorlijk vaak voor dat een hit maar één week op #1 staat: tot nu 57 keer. Ruim één op de vijf nummer 1-hits heeft dus maar één week bovenaan de lijst doorgebracht.

Langst en kortst genoteerd
Alle vijf hits die minstens 30 weken in de FZ Top 40 hebben gestaan stonden ook op nummer 1: Impossible van Nothing but Thieves (34 weken genoteerd), Zitti E Buoni van Måneskin (33), Just Give Me a Reason van P!nk (32), Wake Me Up van Avicii (31) en Death by a Thousand Cuts van Imminence (ook 31).

Twee nummer 1-hits vlogen er heel snel weer uit: Amnesia van Ian Carey & Rosette stond 7 weken in de FZ Top 40 genoteerd en Shine Your Way van Owl City & Yuna 8 weken.

Meteen op één
16 hits vond ik meteen zó goed, dat ze op nummer 1 binnenkwamen. Dat is in elk jaar behalve 2014, 2020 en 2025 minstens één keer gebeurd. In 2013 het vaakst: drie keer. Avril Lavigne kwam in totaal drie keer op #1 binnen: in 2013 met Here's to Never Growing Up, in 2018 met Head Above Water en in 2021 met Bite Me. Twee stonden een week later niet meer op #1, te weten Hey Brother van Avicii en My Friend van Ollie.

Terug op #1
22 hits habben een 'gebroken run' en kwamen na een onderbreking terug aan kop. Voor Calvin Harris' Summer was deze periode het langst: 8 weken.

Stijgers en zakkers
Adam Lambert zette in het eerste FZ Top 40-jaar (2012) het record voor grootste stijger naar nummer 1 (van #31 naar #1). Dat record staat nog altijd. De grootste zakker vanaf #1 is niet zo'n grote, maar staat ook al zeer lang: Passenger viel in 2013 van #1 naar #8 met Let Her Go.

Laat op #1
Twee hits kwamen pas in de 11de week notering voor het eerst op #1: Lukas Grahams 7 Years in 2015, na een re-entry, en Duncan Laurence' Arcade in 2019 na zijn overwinning op het Songfestival.

Zitti E Buoni van Måneskin, Songfestivalwinnaar van 2021, kwam in de 11de week notering terug op #1, na daar eerder al vijf weken te hebben gestaan. In de laatste week op #1 stond het nummer al 15 weken genoteerd. Ook Death by a Thousand Cuts van Imminence stond in de 15de week voor het laatst op #1.

Verschillende talen op #1
Slechts 11 nummer 1-hits worden op zijn minst deels niet in het Engels gezongen, waarvan 8 volledig niet in het Engels. Dat zijn Ai Se Eu Te Pego van Michel Teló (Portugees), Occidentali's Karma van Francesco Gabbani (Italiaans), Rode Wijn van Maan & Kraantje Pappie (Nederlands), Nu Wij Niet Meer Praten van Jaap Reesema & Pommelien Thijs (Nederlands), Zitti E Buoni van Måneskin (Italiaans), Seule van SOA (Frans), Eigen Schuld van Metejoor (Nederlands) en Maman van Louane (Frans).

Dezelfde titel

De titels Strangers (Sigrid 2018, Bring Me the Horizon 2022), Lost (Linkin Park 2023, Bring Me the Horizon 2023) en Punching Bag (Palaye Royale 2021, Set It Off 2023) komen twee keer voor.

Langste en kortste duur (lengte)

De korst durende nummer 1-hit staat op naam van Sigrids Don't Feel Like Crying (2019). Het nummer duurt 2 minuten en 37 seconden. De langste was Hello Heaven, Hello van YUNGBLUD met maar liefst 9 minuten en 6 seconden.

Meeste nummer 1-hits voor een artiest
Bring Me the Horizon is recordhouder nummer 1-hits met 9. In 2018 was Mantra de eerste en in 2024 was Top 10 Statues That Cried Blood de laatste. Van 2020 t/m 2024 had de band elk jaar minstens één nummer 1-hit. Avril Lavigne heeft 8 nummer 1-hits, Owl City 7 (allemaal in drie jaar tijd!) en Bastille en YUNGBLUD 6. Er zijn 21 andere acts met minstens 3 nummer 1-hits in de FZ Top 40.

Ook vermeldenswaardig: Avicii (in 2013) en Owl City (in 2014) scoorden drie nummer 1-hits in één kalenderjaar. Avicii heeft tevens het record van meeste totaal aantal weken op #1 in een kalenderjaar (14 weken).

Meeste opvolgende hits die nummer 1 werden

Avicii, Rihanna, Zara Larsson, Bring Me the Horizon en Architects kregen het elk voor elkaar om met drie achtereenvolgende FZ Top 40-hits te koppositie van de lijst te bereiken.

Zelf-vervanging op nummer 1
Avicii verving zichzelf in 2013 twee keer op #1. Eerst werd Wake Me Up direct opgevolgd door You Make Me. Later werd You Make Me opgevolgd door Hey Brother. Pas begin 2025 vonden er weer twéé zelf-opvolgingen plaats: Architects verving zichzelf op #1 toen Blackhole het stokje overnam van Whiplash. Later dat jaar volgde Fit for a King zichzelf op: Witness the End stond direct na Begin the Sacrifice op nummer 1.

Langste tijd tussen twee nummer 1-hits

Bij twee artiesten zat er precies 255 weken (bijna 5 jaar) tussen twee nummer 1-hits: voor Avril Lavigne was dat de periode tussen Let Me Go (2013) en Head Above Water (2018). Voor MNEK Never Forget You (2015) en Head & Heart (2020).

Jong en oud
Erick Colon, lid van de - inmiddels niet meer actieve - Amerikaanse boyband CNCO, was pas 16 jaar en 8 maanden toen CNCO met Reggaetón Lento (Remix) de FZ Top 40 aanvoerde. Daya, Zara Larsson, Noah Cyrus en Olivia Rodrigo waren 17 bij hun eerste nummer 1-hit. Joel Pimentel (CNCO) was 18 en Oliver Heldens, Pommelien Thijs en Zabdiel De Jesus (CNCO) waren 19. Alle andere nummer 1-artiesten waren minstens 20 jaar oud tijdens hun eerste week op #1.

Het record van oudste nummer 1-artiest (bij de laatste week op #1) staat onbetwist op naam van Nile Rodgers. Hij was 71 jaar toen Honey Boy in 2024 op #1 stond. De enige andere artiest die minstens 50 was is Wanz (Thrift Shop, 2013, was toen 51 jaar). Daarna volgen Linkin Park-bandleden Mike Shinoda, Dave Farrell en Joe Hahn.
